11-year-old Emmett Rychner loves helping other people. When he learned that his 5th grade teacher’s beloved dog was disabled, he knew he had to do something.
The resourceful young man decided to build the dog a wheelchair, and the result is quickly going viral.
Dana Holden, Emmett’s teacher, would frequently share pictures of her dog, Leonard, with Emmett’s class. The class often giggled when they saw how oddly Leonard was sitting, but Emmett realized something else was going on.
The 9-year-old Dachshund has a tumor pressing on his spine that prevents his back legs from working correctly.
It took several tries, but Emmett eventually created a fully functional wheel chair to help the poor pup move around more freely.
“I think he has just an empathy, and whether that’s from Elring, or just who he is, he’s got that in him already,” Dana said in an interview.
