Teen with special needs is rejected before school dance, but a stranger’s kindness has everyone in tears

Daniel, a 17-year-old high school student with Down syndrome, asked a girl to homecoming, but was rejected.

The boy was crushed, but a stranger’s kindness changed everything. When Kylie, a 10th grade student at Shallow Ridge High school, learned about Daniel’s situation she rushed to ask him to the dance. “I don’t think of kids that have a diability as being different,” she told Fox 5, “I just think of them as a person learning in a different way.”

Daniel’s family was overwhelmed. Daniel’s mom Tonya Rivas spoke through tears of joy saying, “Someone took the time to take my son to Homecoming? Words can’t describe what I’m feeling.”

When the Fox 5 Surprise Squad learned about Kylie’s kindness they stepped in to give the teens a night they would never forget. After surprising the teens and their families, the Surprise Squad pull out all the stops and delivered a Rolls Royce and driver to their front door. The teens were overjoyed as they were taken to a luxury restaurant for a meal Daniel’s fay could never afford on their own.

The young couple’s jaws dropped when they arrived at the dance to find a red carpet waiting for them. The surprises kept coming as the teens were brought into a spotlight for a set of special gifts that will change their lives.
